Founded in 1980, the Borealis Sailing Centre (the Centre) is a non-profit organization based in the Ottawa-Gatineau region that promotes and teaches safe sailing techniques. Our main program takes place on the Ottawa River, on beautiful Lac Deschênes.

The Centre offers training and sailing outings (days, evenings and weekends) that allow members to deepen their knowledge and practice their sailing skills. Our sailboats, Nika (7.6‑m/25‑ft keelboat) and Zephyr (8.5‑m/28‑ft keelboat), are moored at the Aylmer Marina. We also organize sailing weeks elsewhere, like in Georgian Bay.

Our programs are accessible to adults of all ages, regardless of their sailing experience, and are made available in both French and English. Members also have the opportunity of becoming skippers by going through a formal and rigorous evaluation process.

Our objectives:

  • Help discover and share the pleasures of sailing on the Ottawa River
  • Make sailing on a keelboat accessible to all who wish to try it
  • Encourage learning of sailing from basic to advanced
  • Promote volunteer involvement among its members
